Nite Yun & Nyum Bai

Nite Yun fled Cambodia as a child refugee and rebuilt her world through food, eventually opening Nyum Bai in Oakland, one of the only Cambodian restaurants in the Bay Area. The goal was to capture not just a chef or a restaurant, but a living story of survival, culture, and community.

We built the shoot around the spaces and people that define her world, her kitchen, her neighborhood, her team, using natural light and a loose, documentary approach to honor the authenticity of her story.

This shoot was paired with Nite’s interview that ran across social and The Lesser Known Quarterly.
